International learning

Date: 1 October, 2018

Time: 09:00 AM

During the mid-semester school break, Churchie’s three groups of Modern Languages students have travelled to China, Spain and Japan for immersive study and cultural experiences.

The China tour visited Shanghai Yan’an High School, which was the eighth time since 2004. Students stayed with Chinese families for a few nights, attended classes with their homestay buddies and visited historical sites such as the Great Wall, The Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven.

The Spanish tour is Churchie’s inaugural excursion, reflecting the growing interest in Spanish as a subject area since its introduction a few years ago. The group visited Madrid, Toledo, San Sebastian and Barcelona and stayed with Spanish families, attending school with their homestay buddies and seeing the wonderful sites of Pamplona.

The Japanese tour visited Mie High School in Matsusaka. Churchie has a wonderfully long and rich history with Mie, this year celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of our partnership. The boys stayed with host families for five nights and attended school with their buddies, they also visited sites in Hiroshima, Kyoto and Nara as well as attending a Sumo tournament in Tokyo.

We are proud to offer Churchie’s language students these valuable international learning experiences and look forward to hearing tales from their respective journeys.
