Churchie's Chess Prowess

Posted on 30 October 2017

Churchie's Premier Chess team performed outstandingly throughout the 2017 GPS season and is has secured an equal third position at the National Secondary School Chess finals held at Sydney Grammar School. This is a fantastic result, especially considering how young some players are in the team. Churchie Chess has had a fantastic year, with many more set to come.

The team, consisting of Cole de Git, Michael Ostapenko, Henry Slater-Jones, Alex Au and Jason Wang were undefeated throughout the GPS season and won the Premiership. This qualified the team to attend the Queensland Secondary School State Chess finals where they took home a convincing win.

Every member of the team excelled themselves and played some of the best chess we have seen at schoolboy level. The level of technical skill in the end game was critical in securing success at both an individual and corporate level.
